Your Director

Thomas DeLessio has been Director of Liturgical Music for the Diocese of Metuchen and the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi since February 1, 2001. For the parish, he has the great honor to direct the Children, Youth and Cathedral Choirs each week at Mass. Additionally, he prepares the choirs for the annual Christmas concert, and coordinates other concerts. As Cathedral Organist, he plays for nearly 400 liturgies each year.

Thom is Director of the Diocesan Festival Choir and founding Director of the Diocesan Chamber Choir. He is responsible for the Music Ministry at principal Diocesan Liturgies, has conducted expanded choirs for the Installations of Bishop Bootkoski and Checchio, the funeral of Bishop Hughes, five Diocesan pilgrimages to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and a 2015 pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi. Thom also serves as a resource to musicians of the Diocese.

Prior to his Diocesan appointment, Thom served Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Whitehouse Station from 1987-2001 as Director of Music and Organist, where he formed and developed the various choirs and oversaw the installation of a pipe organ. Under Thom’s direction, the Adult Choir traveled on pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi in 1999.

Thom is piano accompanist for the Somerset Hills School District, the Camerata and Coro Vivo young men’s choirs of the New Jersey Youth Chorus, and the newly formed Rise Up Chorus. He is in demand as an accompanist, playing organ and piano annually for choral concerts at several parishes of the Diocese. In addition to the dedicatory organ recital for Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Thom also performed the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony and other works with the Tim Keyes Consort for the 25th anniversary of the Cathedral pipe organ and the dedication of the new pipe organ at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Skillman.

Thom holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education and Organ from Westminster Choir College, and a graduate degree in Theology and Ministry from LaSalle University. He maintains a private piano and organ studio in Whitehouse. Thom is grateful to his wife Christine and their children, Adam, Mary, Emily and Catherine for all of their continued support in his ministry and miscellaneous musical adventures.
