Thomas DeLessio Celebrates his Twentieth Annivesary as Director of Music
 
Thomas DeLessio celebrated his twentieth anniversary as Director of Liturgical Music for the Diocese of Metuchen and the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi on February 1, 2021.
 
Mr. DeLessio selects music and plays organ annually for approximately 400 parish Sunday masses, funerals, weddings, and diocesan liturgies such as Priesthood Ordination, Chrism and more. He prepares parish choirs including Kids of the Kingdom (grades K-2), Junior Choir (3-6), Youth Choir (7-12), Cathedral Choir, Cathedral Men’s Schola, Cathedral Handbells, Cantors, and Diocesan Festival Choir, which consists of singers from many parishes.
 
Expanded choirs were under Mr. DeLessio’s direction for the installations of Bishops Bootkoski and Checchio, five diocesan pilgrimages to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, a 2015 pilgrimage to Vatican City, Rome and Assisi, and a 2019 pilgrimage to Paris and Normandy. He also conducted the choir of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Whitehouse Station on a 1999 pilgrimage to Vatican City, Rome and Assisi during his 1987-2001 tenure as parish Director of Music.
 
Two pipe organ projects were completed under Mr. DeLessio’s leadership. These include a new Randall Dyer instrument at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in 1998, and a Patrick Murphy restoration and expansion of the cathedral organ in 2018.
 
Mr. DeLessio is collaborative pianist for the Somerset Hills School District and Metuchen based Rise Up Chorus. He regularly accompanies parish and school concerts within the diocese, and is an occasional organ recitalist. He maintains a private piano and organ studio in Whitehouse.
 
Mr. DeLessio holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education and Organ from Westminster Choir College, and a graduate degree in Theology and Ministry from LaSalle University. He and his wife Christine have four children, Adam and his wife Lauren, Mary, Emily, and Catherine.
